A is for…

You might not know this, but

“A” is for Aria…
How do I know? Because every time my three-year old daughter sees the letter “A”, it stands for Aria, of course.
“B” stands for Beckham…that’s my little French Bulldog.
It doesn’t matter where we walk, what shops we go to, “A” is for Aria and “B” is for Beckham. She sees the “AUTO” shop…And all she notices is the “A” from Auto…She is probably wondering why the word “AUTO” doesn’t have a “B” in it.
“A” is for Aria…

Ok, let’s step back for a minute.

There is something to this story. My wife and I were on our nightly neighborhood walk.
During our walks, we talk about all sorts of stuff married couples talk about, like how my wife needs her dead-ends trimmed, why she doesn’t like her nail lady and her next acupuncture appointment.

Last night was different. We got to talking about life and upbringing. She was talking and all of a sudden she said, “I’m sure we all have had stuff happen growing up…but if you don’t ever think about them, they just feel like distant memories. They don’t have the punch to them. It’s like going on vacation and only thinking about it years later. You remember you were there but the details fade away…”

I realized something. She wasn’t going around town memorizing her troubles…It just didn’t make sense to her.”A” wasn’t for re-living the past. Most people look at life and memorize their griefs:
“A” is for I’m worthless…
“B” is for I’m worthless…
“C” is for I’m worthless…
“D” is for I’m worthless…
And so on…
We are memorizing and learning a language, from a silent teacher.
We are schooling ourselves to listen to the voice without a face or a name.
My wife naturally found out that there isn’t a teacher worth listening to that reminds you of your troubles…
This “trip” to memory lane just didn’t make sense to her…

Here is how some of us memorize our letters…

“A” is for I’m an Alcoholic
“B” is for I’m Beat-down and worthless
“C” is for I Can’t ever be enough
“D”..
“E”…
“F”…
Here is the secret…If you aren’t paying attention at school you’re gonna miss some parts of class…
“A” is for Aria
And “A” is for you to see the beauty of this life and know that as the past fades and the new emerges, “A” is also for an infinity of experiences you are offered at any moment.
“A” is for infinity
We are never just the student, we are also the one who teaches…Sometimes we listen to the wrong person…who isn’t even there…
“A” is for Aware
“A” is for Alive
“A” is for AWAKE!
“A” is also for Aria…
What does your A, B, and C stand for?
Class dismissed…
